Tropik Loops is a Toronto-based musical project that blends the rhythms and spirit of Latin America with the textures and language of funk, rock, and electronic music. Founded by Ecuadorian bassist Jaime Sánchez and Mexican guitarist Raúl Ochoa, the duo crafts a sound that bridges continents—where groove-driven energy meets rich cultural roots.
Jaime and Raúl first met in 2012, when Raúl auditioned for Babalao Stereo Club, a Toronto Latin-fusion band co-founded by Jaime. Their chemistry was immediate, leading to years of collaboration—including the funk and disco-inspired project Primordial Clam Chowder with drummer Luis Bertolotti. During this time, they also began developing their own compositions rooted in Latin American rhythms and modern production.
In 2024, after Primordial Clam Chowder went on indefinite hiatus, Jaime and Raúl decided to merge their creative visions into a new project—Tropik Loops. The project embodies their ongoing exploration of Latin rhythms through the lens of contemporary funk and electronic music, offering a vibrant, cross-cultural sound that celebrates both tradition and innovation.
